8 Simple Fall Activities for Toddlers & Preschoolers
It’s a great time for family fun! This includes celebrating Halloween and Thanksgiving. It’s a great time to establish family traditions and you get your toddler excited for the holidays. But let’s keep it simple!
1. Visit a Farm or Orchard
Visiting a farm or orchard can be fun for the whole family. Toddlers love exploring! At places like these, there are so many interesting outdoor things to do. Toddlers can explore to their heart’s content, by picking fruit or vegetables, petting and feeding farm animals. Depending on your local orchard there may be many other games and activities to try. I took my son to a local orchard and there were so many things to do like train rides, bounces, bubbles, and sensory play in the corn bins. He absolutely loved it and he was busy from the time we arrived to our departure.
2. Go Trunk-or-Treating
Your toddler will have a blast dressing up as their favorite character and going to a trunk-or-treat. This is a fun fall activity for toddlers that teaches them what Halloween is and also lets them enjoy some yummy treats! Trunk-or-treats are a safer way for your little one to trick-or-treat. Often these events are pre-registered. It’s also much easier on the parent. Walking around your neighborhood with a toddler to get loads of candy can be tiring and dangerous.
If you are worried about the snack choices, swap out some of your toddler’s trunk-or-treating candy with some healthier candy alternatives.
3. Play in The Leaves
An easy and cheap fall activity for your toddler is to play in the leaves. You can help them rake leaves into a pile to play. If you want to get fancy, you can buy a toddler-sized rake so they can safely participate. Toddlers can make leaf angels, and throw them in the air. Another great way to play with leaves is to stuff Halloween lawn bags full of them! You can teach a quick lesson on colors while playing with leaves outdoors. The fall season brings on many beautiful leaf colors like yellow, red, and orange.
4. Spend Time at an Indoor Play Place
If it’s nearing the end of fall and the weather is getting too cold for your toddler to play for long outside, try an indoor play place. Do a Google search to locate fun play places in your area. I took my son to one and he had a blast. This included play areas for big and small kids and a snack bar. This was a fun way for my little one to play when outdoor conditions weren’t good. They usually include activities like obstacle courses, tumbling mats, pretend kitchens, push toys, and interactive learning. You can also try a trampoline park as they often have a dedicated time for little children.
5. Go to a Park
Going to the park is a free and exciting outing. Whether you conduct a scavenger hunt, play on the jungle gym, or have a picnic your toddler will have a blast. Toddlers are easily entertained and bringing some balls and bubbles to the park can keep your toddler entertained during your trip. Don’t forget the snacks if you’re planning to be there for more than an hour!
6. Visit a Zoo
Taking a trip to the zoo is not only fun but such a wonderful learning experience for toddlers. They can see and name the animals that they see in their books and on their flashcards.
