Positive Postpartum Affirmations For New Moms

Postpartum affirmations are important to helping you be in a good mental space. It’s so easy after having a baby to feel uncomfortable or unhappy. You just gave birth and while your little bundle of joy is here, you still look a little…pregnant. This can be upsetting. Unlike we’d like, the baby fat doesn’t just melt off as soon as your little one arrives. You may be in pain from birth and are healing slowly. Lastly, you’re trying to find out how to be a new mom and you’re doing it with very little sleep. This can eat away at your confidence and make you question your self-worth.

Your Postpartum Body & Mind

Remember your body carried and delivered your baby. You are strong! Whatever you are feeling about your postpartum body… remember you are beautiful no matter what shape or size you are. Your body was used to bring your baby into this world…it’s okay that it looks a little different.

“When I look at my new stretch marks and the changes that my body went through, it reminds me that, as women, we’re all superheroes. I’m always reminded that our bodies were built to do this. It’s such a beautiful thing to be able to give birth, but I didn’t realize it until afterward.” — Ashley Graham

“Even though it will never be flat again, my stomach’s still my favorite because it reminds me of my greatest achievement: my babies.” — Isla Fisher

Positive Postpartum Affirmations

My weight doesn’t define my worth.

Me being healthy is more important than a number on the scale.

My body is beautiful.

My body is healing from performing a miracle.

I look different but I’m still gorgeous.

I am tired but I am strong.

I am the mom my little one needs.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

Baby Blues & Postpartum Depression

After pregnancy, many women can experience baby blues or postpartum depression. Baby blues occur two to three days after pregnancy. It can last up to a couple of weeks. This includes feeling overwhelmed, crying, increased anxiety, and mood swings. It usually goes away on its own and doesn’t need treatment.

If more than two weeks have passed and you’re still having these feelings you should contact your doctor.

Postpartum depression is more severe than baby blues and the symptoms last much longer. According to Mayo’s Clinic, some symptoms are difficulty bonding with your baby, restlessness, anger, panic attacks, withdrawal from others, extreme fatigue, and fear that you’re not a good mom. There are several other symptoms of postpartum depression including thoughts of death. It doesn’t look the same for everyone.

If you feel that this is something you are struggling with, please seek medical attention right away. You want to be the healthiest you for you and your new baby!

Easy Ways to Relieve Some Mom-Stress

Moms have such an important role in their children’s life. A mother’s responsibility can be heavy. Try to account for all the positives in your life. When I get stressed out I find peace in my toddler. Looking at how happy he is and how much he smiles. It gives me the best outlook on life. Especially when he tells me he loves me! Sometimes just playing with him…and forgetting the chores and responsibilities of home helps.

Letting yourself just care for your little one for a day and not worrying about cooking dinner (eat out or order in) letting the laundry and chores wait. Often the stress from my son is not all that much, but trying to juggle everything else can be overwhelming.

Having support can be very helpful. Take help when you can get it, be it a friend or family. If you don’t have this support system, look into a trustworthy babysitter or nanny who you can hire when you need those few hours to take a mental break!

Laugh. Watch a comedy, read a good joke, or have a good conversation with a friend. Laughter can help relieve stress.

Take time to unwind. When you’re stressed out, take an hour to unwind. Do some of your favorite hobbies or relax and watch your favorite show.
