Winter Light Spectacular at Lehigh Valley Zoo Review

Do you live near the Lehigh Valley area…or within a couple hours? Consider a trip down to the Lehigh Valley Zoo to celebrate the Christmas holiday. From November 12 to January 1st, it’s the Lehigh Valley’s favorite holiday tradition…. The Winter Lights Spectacular! I attended the Winter Light Spectacular at the Lehigh Valley Zoo and it was a blast! It was a great night. The best attraction at the zoo are the lights. The light displays feature over 1.2 million lights. Light displays vary in color and motion. As of now, this is the biggest light attraction in Pennsylvania! It’s most certainly worth a visit!

Other Winter Light Spectacular Attractions

Aside from the lights, there are fun life-size cutouts of Christmas characters such as Santa, reindeer and ornaments. Some famous characters include The Grinch, Buzz Lightyear and Woody. These are all great photo opportunities for your family! Also stop by the Christmas-themed figures with face cut-outs, so you and your children can enjoy taking photos at the delightful photo scenes.

I enjoyed myself enough that the cold wasn’t that important. Nonetheless, it will be cold, so bundle up! This event starts after it’s dark, which is the coldest time of day. All around the zoo they have stations for snacks, hot chocolate and places to get warm by the fire. If you have really little kids, I recommend being cautious of these areas. Some areas are heated with large propane heaters. Some areas are open fire pits.

Through out the night, there were a couple of professional performances. They’re really great for children all ages. While I was there Elsa and Anna sang together. Right after, they invited the children over for photos with them. Cinderella also sang and took pictures with the children. Depending on the date, you may even see Belle.

In the zoo, there are small gift shops along the way. I bought my son the most wonderful pair of socks/slippers. There are also stations for snacks, food and hot chocolate.  For those who enjoy spiked hot beverages, there’s Spirit station that sell hot chocolate and cider with spirits. They also sell a cute travel cup for hot chocolate that you can bring back year after year for free refills of hot chocolate.

Would I Recommend the Winter Light Spectacular?

This is truly a great outing for adults who enjoy Christmas lights or have children. All the children there seemed to be having a spectacular time. It also seemed people were in the Christmas spirit. I didn’t take my son, but I hope to return with him bundled up for the ride before the season is over. I would recommend a stroller for small children. While it’s not an overly long walk, it will be for little toddler feet. The road to get there was very curvy…so I’m not sure I’d want to take the trip back in poor weather conditions. And I mean snow or sleet. Which Pennsylvania is full of! If you do make the ride in snow, please use caution.

Tickets/Admission

Due to Covid, tickets are only for a two-hour sessions. I believe this is to keep the capacity down. When I attended the parking lots was busy, but when I got to the zoo, I did realize it was overcrowded. This was great because it’s easier to get to see the performances and take family photos without waiting in a long line.

This is so cute! We have zoo lights at our zoos, but they lack the pop culture that this one has.
